Given that the first commercial enterprise email archives were introduced over 17 years ago,  it should come as no surprise that the size of email archives is an order of magnitude greater than what’s sitting in users’ mailboxes.

Transvault’s experience is that there’s an average ratio of 4:1, archive to mailbox volumes (often because of staff leaving the enterprise), but this can be much higher, especially when there’s a separate email journal that’s been archived.
