Team Spotlight – Tocy Tom’s Journey into Software Development

At Transvault, we are passionate about what we do but that passion is only possible because of the people who make our team. We are continuing the series of shining a spotlight our team with Tocy, whose journey from Kerala in southern India to the UK has been both inspiring and full of learning. Known as “God’s own country” Kerala is where Tocy first discovered a love for computers and technology; a passion that has guided her ever since. 

Tocy’s Interest in tech began during her bachelor’s degree in computer applications where she realised how fascinating computers could be.” That’s when I found my real passion” she says. “It made me want to learn more, so I decided to do my Master’s in the same subject and gained experience as a software developer.” 

Later with encouragement and support from her husband, Tocy decided to take another leap this time into Master’s in Data Science in the UK. “It was exciting to learn something new while building on what I already knew,” she explains. “The move helped me grow personally and professionally.” 

When reflecting on the key moments that shaped her journey, Tocy smiles. 

“Seeing my first project go live, mentoring someone for the first time, and realising how powerful teamwork can be, those were defining moments for me. Studying data science in the UK was another big step. Each experience taught me something knew and help me reach where I am today.” 

It was her father who first encouraged her to explore a career in technology. “He told me to study Computer Applications saying it could open exciting opportunities in the future” she recalls. “That simple advice changed everything. It sparked my curiosity for technology and set the foundation for my journey as a software developer.” 

When asked what excites her most about being part of Transvault, Tocy doesn’t hesitate. “Definitely the team” she says. “Everyone is so supportive and collaborative, it’s the kind of environment where ideas can grow freely. I feel really lucky to have such a supportive manager who encourages me to keep learning, exploring new technologies, and sharing ideas. There is always space to try new things.” 

For Tocy, her role perfectly aligns with her personal values. “I enjoy taking on challenges and finding solutions that really work” she says. “I like exploring new tools trying different approaches and knowing that my work makes a real difference. Is the kind of work that keeps me excited everyday.” 

Since joining the team, she learned just how powerful structured collaboration can be. “Combining clear processes with everyone’s effort helps us tackle challenges efficiently and deliver high quality solutions together,” she explains.  

Her days start with a quiet moment of connection. “My mornings always begin with a coffee with my husband, and on some days, a refreshing walk,” she says. “No matter how busy my day is, I never end it without talking to my parents; that’s something I hold onto wherever I am.” 

Looking to the future Tocy feels excited about the pace of growth and innovation within the company. “The way we are evolving and adapting to new technologies is inspiring,” she says. “We are encouraged to explore new ideas and keep trying new things. It makes me genuinely excited about what’s ahead and what we can accomplish together.” 

Her advice for anyone starting out in software development?
“Take your time, engineering is all about learning step by step,” she says. “Stay consistent, keep exploring, and surround yourself with people who inspire you.” 

Outside of work Tocy loves to travel. “Every trip lets me experience something new and see life from a different perspective,” she says. “It helps me understand people, cultures, and the way they think; it really broadens how I see the world.”
